Judge Ted Schneiderman died peacefully on Thursday October 8 at the age of 94.
Ted was born in Akron in 1932, the third child of immigrants Sam and Eva Schneiderman. He was the little brother of Shirley (Sol) Wagan, Stan (Harriet) and lived here his entire life.
He graduated from Coventry High School, Kent State University and The Ohio State University College of Law.Early in his career he worked for the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office. He was also Special Counsel for the State of Ohio, the City of Akron and the City of Cuyahoga Falls. He had the opportunity to practice law with his brother Stan and many others before being appointed to the Akron Municipal Court Judge in 1980. Later he was elected to the Summit County Common Pleas Court where he served until he retired in 2013.He thoroughly enjoyed serving as a judge and was exceptionally well liked by his colleagues and members of the Bar. He took great pride in helping train young lawyers.
He was a life-long student of American History and the Constitution. For years he contributed biographies of the American presidents to the Akron Bar Association newsletter which were later compiled into a book.For more than 25 years, Ted planned the Akron Bar Association Constitution Day Ceremony which celebrated aspects of American history and was highlighted by the swearing in of hundreds of new citizens.He was also a community leader. Some of the organizations which benefited from his leadership included: Akron Bar Association, Victim’s Assistance, Oriana House, Kiwanis, and the Akron Civic Theater. He was a national leader in B’nai B’rith rising to the position of regional President representing 8 states in 1976. Everywhere he went he was known and loved.
He was a lifelong member of Beth El Synagogue and lived his conviction that one should spread happiness. He shared with his family the keys to a happy life: Faith, Family, Friends, Work. His other joys included Ohio State football and the company of dogs.
Ted is predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Rolinda. He is survived by their four daughters Toby Rosen (Gary), Karen (Tracey Messer), Nancy Levin (Farrel Helfer), and Amy. He will also be deeply missed by 6 grandchildren with whom he was deeply involved as their “Paka.” They are Adam (Erin), Samuel (Shelley), Jacob (Anna) Rosen and Allie (Omid), Claire (Jacob) and Jo (Allison) Levin and three great grandchildren Stella, Sophie and Eli. Janet Stewart was Ted’s companion, adding great joy and care in his last years and is considered part of his family.
