Obituary

Sedell Kamenir
April 22, 1933 ~ October 14, 2024
91 Years Old

Sedell Kamenir passed away peacefully on October 14, 2024, surrounded by her family. She lived her early life in Cleveland, Ohio, beginning in the '30s, growing up in the great depression and attending The Ohio State University, Case Western Reserve University and University of Akron, graduating with a master's degree in biology. Sedell became a Medical Technologist, then a Genetic Counselor, followed by Director of Volunteers for Summit County Family Services. While attending Ohio State she was a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority.

Sedell was a force of nature. She lived life on her own terms, having great passion and purpose for family, education and Jewish traditions. Sedell took great pride in connecting with friends for holidays and social gatherings, where she was always welcoming. She loved to volunteer at the Akron Art Museum as a docent, collect modern art, play bridge, tennis and walk in the Akron Metro Parks. Sedell found joy in her garden, her life, where she created beautiful flower displays in yellow, red and orange and loved to show visitors her gardenia and tomato plants.

Sedell relished spending time with her family, her greatest passion. Her immediate family was always a priority for her, especially her beloved husband, Bernie, to whom she was happily married for 68 years.  They raised Jeffrey, Steven (Elana), and Lynn (Roy) in a home that was always filled with unconditional love, security, and purpose.  She took great joy as their immediate family expanded to include Danielle, David, and Rachel Buchinsky, Hannah and Maya Kamenir, and Rachel and Marissa Kamenir. Sedell was predeceased by Mayer and Molly Millman (parents) and Jerry Millman (brother).

Private Funeral Services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery. Shiva will be observed from 11:30-3:00 pm on Wednesday, October 16 at Beth El Congregation located at The Shaw Jewish Community Center, 750 White Pond Drive, Akron, Ohio 44320.

Memorials can be made in Sedell's name to Beth El Congregation, The Akron Jewish Community Center and The Akron Art Museum.
