In Loving Memory of Marc P. Gertz
July 27, 1952 – November 3, 2025
Marc Gertz, beloved husband, father, colleague, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, at the age of 73. Born and raised in Akron, Ohio, Marc spent his entire life in the community he loved and served.
After graduating from Akron Firestone High School, Marc attended The Ohio State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in 1974, and was a member of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity, followed by his Juris Doctor in 1977. He co-founded the law firm of Gertz & Rosen, Ltd., and for nearly fifty years Marc practiced bankruptcy law with distinction. Marc also served as a Chapter 7 Panel Trustee for over forty years.
Marc shared his knowledge and experience as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Akron School of Law, guiding and inspiring future generations of lawyers. His commitment to public service extended beyond the legal profession—he served as President of the Shaw Jewish Community of Akron and the Western Reserve Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center, as well as a member of several civic and charitable boards, devoting his time to causes that strengthened and uplifted others.
Outside of his family, profession and community, he was an inveterate and lifelong sports fan, particularly of the Cleveland Cavaliers and The Ohio State Buckeyes, who both rewarded his loyalty with national championships -- as well the Browns and Guardians, who didn't.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Pamela Jill (Schneier); daughter, Leia Paige Gertz; son, Braden Gertz; and sister, Melanie Springer (Dr. Dennis). He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Betty Gertz.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at Rose Hill Burial Park, 3653 W. Market Street, Akron.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Akron Bar Association's pro bono effort, the Modest Means Referral Program, and the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank.
Marc will be remembered for his quick wit, steadfast integrity, and steady guidance —qualities that leave a lasting mark on his family, friends, clients, students, and colleagues.
