Obituary

Karen Nackes passed away peacefully on Friday, November 21, 2025, surrounded by family at the age of 87. Karen was born on February 27, 1938, the only child of Blanche and Saul Isroff, and spent most of her life in Akron. In addition to raising her family, she was dedicated to numerous local causes. She served for many years on the Women's Board of Akron Children's Hospital working on the Charity Ball, legislative advocacy and numerous other committees. She was also an active member of her congregation at Temple Israel. In recent years, she was especially devoted to helping to organize Mitzvah Day, which brings together numerous faith-based organizations for a day of service to the needy of Akron. She also participated in The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church with her late husband, Manuel Nackes.

Karen was a beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children: Michael (Heidi) Levey, Stuart (Annette) Levey, Nicholas (Annette) Nackes, and Lynn Carr. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Brian (Rachel) Levey, Ben (Gigi) Levey, Deena Levey, Leah (Elshaday) Belay, Josephine Levey, Helena Levey, Nicholas Carr, Lauren Carr, Kourt Carr, Brianna Nackes, and Alexa Nackes. Further, she is survived by 5 great-grandchildren: Judah, Caleb and Elianna Levey and Sienna and Alex Belay.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 24, 2025, with interment at Rose Hill Burial Park.
