Obituary

Janice S. Fish, 89, of Akron, Ohio, passed away on September 30. 2023, after a full and rich life.

Jan was born on March 30, 1934, to Jack and Bea Seiger in Los Angeles, California. After Jan graduated from Canoga Park High School, she went on to study at the Los Angeles Community College.

When her parents moved to Portland, Oregon to open a furniture store, she followed them to the Northwest. Her first job was at the area's leading newspaper, The Oregonian, kickstarting a rewarding career in newspaper editing, copywriting, advertising, which culminated in a twenty-five-year career helping to publish the Akron Jewish News and annual yearbook.

In 1955, Jan met a dashing young Air Force Staff Sergeant, Stanley Fish, at a community Seder in Portland, Oregon. After Stan completed his service, they married and moved to Northeast Ohio, where Stan was born and raised. They went on to have two children, David and Brian.

By the late 1990's both Jan and Stan retired and spent their time becoming antique collectors and part-time antique dealers. They traveled the country, and even England, pursuing the paintings and furniture of Wallace Nutting, the exquisite glass of Carl Erickson, and the delicate Shelley fine china. They both loved and supported all of Cleveland's professional sports teams and were sad to have never seen the Browns in the Super Bowl.

Jan was predeceased by her loving husband, Stan, in 2013, as well as her sister Verniece Feinberg. She is survived by her brother, Lawrence Seiger, sister, Nancy DeSerpa, sons, David (Jennifer), Brian (partner Pam Hartley) Fish; Grandchildren, Jacob (Lindsey), Hannah (Tom Kalista), Emma, Isaac, and Sophia Fish; and great grandchildren Theo, Emmett, and Archie Fish.

A private service will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. The family will be hosting calling hours and a Shiva at the home of David and Jennifer Fish, 488 Arbor Lane, Copley, Ohio from on Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Jewish Family Services of Akron and Cleveland, 29125 Chagrin Blvd, Pepper Pike, OH 44122, an organization that supports the senior citizens that Jan felt so strongly about.
