Gerald Moss

Dec. 18, 1942 - June 27, 2026

The family and friends of Gerald Moss recently lost a kind man who was filled with love and laughter. His kind and humble spirit touched many and will continue to live through those who loved and admired him. Jerry was predeceased by his parents, William and Sarah (Cohen) Moss and his sister Harriet (Moss) Pletcher.

Jerry will be greatly missed by his wife of 45 years, Sherry Moss of Leawood, KS; nieces and nephews Jeff Pletcher (Tracy), Doug Pletcher (Leah), Jason Pletcher and Jennifer (Pletcher) Stallworth. Jerry also leaves his Uncle Arnie Moskowitz and Aunt Florence Susman and cousins Karen Beuoy (Tim Kidder), David Moskowitz (Luanne), Paul Moskowitz, Steve Moskowitz (Laura), Mindi Ellis (Gregg Nick), Susan Susman and many other beloved cousins and friends, especially Larry Levine, Michael Levine and Dwaine Swickard.

Jerry grew up in the Bronx, NY. When he was 14, the Moss family moved to Akron, Ohio. After graduating from Buchtel High School, Jerry attended Akron University, joined ROTC and then enlisted in the Army for three years. Upon his return to Akron, he began his work at USPS and spent 32 years as a mail carrier, earning perfect attendance and achieving a flawless driving record. In 1980, he married the love of his life, Sherry Liberman, and the couple remained endlessly devoted to each other. Upon retirement, Jerry and Sherry moved to Calabash, NC, where they enjoyed bowling, golf, visiting Brookgreen Gardens and watching the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

Jerry had a tender heart for animals, and they adored him as well. He especially enjoyed his dog Cookie, two cats and feeding the local birds.

Rabbi Stephen Grundfast will conduct funeral services Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at 11 AM at Gordon Memorial Home, burial will follow at Sherbondy Hill.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Brookgreen Gardens https://www.brookgreen.org/ or any animal protection organization.
