Obituary

Gail Marie Zimmerman Lichten, a loving mother, devoted sister, and proud grandmother, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2023. Born in Akron, Ohio, Gail was the cherished daughter of Milton and Rose Zimmerman.

Gail is survived by her loving children, Jason (Rachel) Lichten and Stephanie (Michael) Jennings, her dear sister, Kathie Schlessinger, and devoted brother, Larry (Tina Noyes) Zimmerman. She leaves behind a legacy of adoration through her grandchildren, Sam, Jake & Sophie Lichten, and Elijah & Shayna Jennings.

Gail was known for her impeccable style, passion for literature, writing, and her love of travel. Her vibrant spirit and unwavering loyalty to her family will forever be remembered. Gail's devotion to her parents was unparalleled, and she continued to be a pillar of support for her children and grandchildren throughout her life.

Born in Akron, Gail excelled at Firestone High School before pursuing higher education at Miami of Ohio and Akron University, where she earned her degree. Later, she achieved a Ph.D. in literature and worked as a speech pathologist. Gail raised her children in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and later moved to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Actively involved in the Bat Doron chapter of Hadassah, Gail was also a passionate advocate for animal rescue.

In the past two years, Gail found solace in the presence of her children in Ohio. Despite her declining memory, her radiant smile continued to warm the hearts of those around her.

A funeral service in memory of Gail's life will be held at Gordon-Flury Memorial Home in Akron on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at 10:30 am and then she will be laid to rest next to her beloved mother and grandmother at Rose Hill Burial Park.

Shiva will be observed at the home of Stephanie and Michael Jennings in Cleveland, and then at the home of Jason and Rachel Lichten on Monday in Columbus.

Gail will be dearly missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory be a blessing.
