Obituary

Esther S. Bober passed away on May 16, 2025, in Boca Raton, Florida, after living with Alzheimer's.

She was born in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, on September 14, 1937, and graduated from Penn State University. After her marriage to Stanley Bober in 1959, Esther moved to Akron where she raised her family and celebrated 53 years of marriage until his passing in 2012. They enjoyed traveling the world and spending time in Florida, initially on Marco Island, wintering in Naples and Boca Raton, then retiring to Delray Beach. They never gave up their ties to Akron and always considered it to be their home.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stanley and parents Mildred and Morris Glick, Esther is survived by her children Mark (Lyn) Bober, Carolyn Bober, and Brian Bober; as well as six grandchildren: Justin Bober, Nate Kalish, Jacob Kalish, Seth Kalish, Claire Bober, and Adam Kalish, all of whom she loved to the moon and back. She is also survived by her sister, Janet Cohen.

Esther was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was very active in the Akron Jewish Community, having chaired the Akron Jewish Center's Women's Auxiliary and many fundraisers. As she spent more time in Florida, Esther continued her philanthropy and volunteerism at the Lynn Cancer Center and for Jewish causes in Palm Beach County and Israel. Esther was an excellent cook who enjoyed entertaining family and friends and hosting them for special occasions, especially the Jewish Holidays. Above all, she loved spoiling her children and grandchildren.

Her graveside funeral will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery on Thursday, May 22nd, at 12 Noon, with a meal of consolation immediately following at The Doubletree Hilton Fairlawn, Ohio.
Donations in her memory can be made to The Bober Family Memorial Fund at Jewish Akron or to Temple Israel in memory of Esther Bober.
