Obituary

Deborah Rotbard

It is with sadness of that we announce the passing of Deborah Rotbard on July 2, 2025.She was with her beloved sister Renee when she died peacefully after a multi-year illness of kidney disease. She was born on February 15, 1963 in Akron. Debbie was predeceased by her parents, Helen and Mark Rotbard. She is survived by her sister, Renee. Debbie was a long time Beth El Congregation member and volunteer in the general and Jewish Community. Graveside services were held on July 7 at Rose Hill Cemetery.

We can all learn a lot from Debbie. She had a love of her home, neighborhood, and city of Akron. She valued her relationship with people at her bank, had people who were supportive where she shopped. Had great support from her dialysis center. Enjoyed Hardety Park, Library and participated in community activities including Ward 8 Meetings where she and Renee would attend and developed a friendship with now Mayor Shamis Mallik. Her house was important to her. She enjoyed the back yard, planting flowers, sitting outside, grilling out.

Another thing we can learn is how much is the value of independence. Accepting help was not easy and she valued her autonomy. When more help was needed over time, it was difficult for Debbie to accept change.

When it became time to move to a more supportive environment, this was really difficult for Debbi to accept. With guidance of the Summit Probate Court, Jewish Family Service and Direction Home she and Renee were able to be in the same long term care community. The Briarwood now Pavilion in Stow became their home. This was not an easy transition. Debbie was never happy about not being in Akron. She missed her home and neighborhood and the earlier freedom. She still wanted to shop in Akron. Thanks to JFS social workers and others some of this was accomplished.

Leadership and Staff at the Briarwood/Pavillion deserve thanks for their care and support. Jewish Family Service has for many years offered support and counsel. Staff at Fresenius Kidney Care in Akron and Kent provided great care for many years. May the memory of Debbie Rotbard be a blessing for all.
