Arthur Gogel Ash passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and family that spans generations.
Born on May 25, 1932, in St. Louis, Missouri, Arthur was the cherished son of Nadine and Maury Ash. He grew up in a loving home with his parents and his brother, Bill Ash, where strong values of family, responsibility, and respect were instilled early and guided him throughout his life.
As a young man, Arthur and his brother proudly achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, reflecting strong character and discipline. In 1952, he enlisted in the United States Air Force alongside his best friend, Burt Pearl. Arthur served honorably during the Korean War for four years, with his most significant duty assignment being with the 44th Air Rescue Squadron, where his courage, selflessness, and dedication to saving others defined his service. For his distinguished military service, Arthur was awarded the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, and the Distinguished Unit Citation.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Arthur’s greatest joy in life was the family he so deeply loved. He was the beloved father of Diane and Dave (Sheri), and a proud grandfather to Danielle, Gabrielle, Joseph (Elise Kramer), and Hannah Lopez, Raleigh (Bubba) Baucum, and Kaycee (Rob) Graal. He was also a loving great-grandfather to Emma and Aaron McMasters, and Asher and Emery Baucum, who brought him immeasurable happiness.
Arthur enjoyed golfing and winters in South Florida with his wife, family and friends. An avid and competitive Monopoly player, he was always ready for fun. Arthur will be remembered for his jokes and humor, his love of life, and his unwavering devotion to his family. His memory lives on through the many lives he touched. Arthur is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Sarah Harary Ash, and by his brother, Bill Ash and his sister-in-law Fredda Ash.
Arthur will be laid to rest beside his wife at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Arthur’s memory to:
